NWU Online Application – North West University

The North-West University which is popular as NWU is one of the top 10 universities in South Africa. As a public research university, it prides itself as one of the largest universities in South Africa with an annual enrolment of approximately 72,994— 56,579 undergraduates and 16,167 postgraduates.

Since its establishment in 2004 following the merging of  Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education and the University of North-West formerly University of Bophuthatswana. NWU has three campuses in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark in South Africa.

North-West University propel to be an internationally recognized university that is scholarship oriented, socially responsive with a touch of ethnic care. NWU is ranked between 101- 150 out of the over 350 universities in the Times Higher Education Young University Ranking. NWU is equally accredited to CHE for its relevance to academic programmes.

Admission Requirement at North-West University

The minimum admission requirement at NWU is a National Senior Certificate with a  30% minimum pass in the language of teaching and learning of the higher education institution.

APS needed at NWU is 24 minimum which excludes Life Orientation. This score is calculated from the four designated subject in addition to two other National Senior Certificate subjects.

Minimum Admission Entry Requirements for Diploma

  1. The minimum entry requirement for Diploma is National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, coupled with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects
Minimum Admission Entry Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree
  1. The minimum entry requirement for Diploma is National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, coupled with an achievement rating of 4 (adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.
Foreign / International Students

How To Apply To North-West University

All interested people hoping to apply to the NWU must first and foremost make sure they have;

  1. An active email address
  2. A working cell phone
  3. A South African Identification number OR
  4. A passport number if you are an international student

How To Apply

  1. First, you need a student’s number. Click on this link https://vssweb.nwu.ac.za/aaa-webclient/UnsecuredLearnerEnquiriesWin.do#/top and follow the prompts to create a new student’s number
  2. Log in with your name and password
  3. Opt for your desired course of study by using the  Yearbook for easy navigation
  4. Upload all relevant documents

     For Undergraduates, you need;

  • A Grade 11, 12 ( final results) only and a copy of your matric certificate in a case where you have already passed it.
  • Completed undertaking
  • A copy of your identification card
  • A copy of your academic record if applicable

For Postgraduates, you need;

  • A complete mandatory undertaking
  • A copy of your identification card
  • A copy of an academic record if applicable
  • All other relevant documents
  1. Submitting of all other supporting documents

North-West University Application Fee

North-West University will not charge any fee as an application from South African Nationals. It is free. For persons applying as international students, they are to pay a fee of R550 upon application.

North-West University Registration Fee

A sum between R100- R300 must be paid before the application commences. The fee is the registration fee and is not refundable. Payment of the amount is neither assurance nor a guarantee that your application will be accepted.

Fees in regards to registration may be paid via cash, credit card, direct bank deposit or electronic funds transfer. Cashier’s Office, Kramer Building is the only place where all payments must be done. To register, click on the link below;

If for any reason or two you are unable to register online, you may download the form and manually complete it to be sent to the address indicated on the right side of the form.

Applicants are advised to submit completed forms as early as possible and not wait for deadlines.

The management at the North-West University has made available opening and closing dates for the 2022/2023 academic year to the general public and all interested persons.
